The world wouldn’t be the same without books. That’s why this week, along with schools in more than 100 different countries worldwide, we’ve been celebrating World Book Day!
For Zouch World Book Week is one of the busiest weeks at school. We began with an assembly, led by our reading leaders, to introduce World Book Week and to share why reading is so important. The whole school is focusing on writing their own fairytales which they will be turning into miniature books and sharing at the end of the week.
As well as sharing our favourite stories with each other, years 2 and 4 visited our local library and we helped all of our children sign up to be able to loan books for their own enjoyment.
On Tuesday, every class dressed their classroom door as their favourite book for everyone to enjoy. Finally, we will end our week by dressing up as our favourite book characters and listening to the adults in school sharing their best books!
Our Vice Principal Mr Morris had this to say about World Book Day, "World Book Day is my favourite time of the academic year as Zouch's Reading lead. Reading is one of my hobbies and passions so to spend a week promoting this is fantastic! This year we've made it even bigger and better. We have had lots of engaging and exciting activities for the children to fall in love with Reading. I have thoroughly enjoyed the week as have lots of the children and teachers. Miss Hargreaves"
Reading is not only important for learning but is also a wonderful hobby. Helping pupils become enthusiastic learners is a goal we forever strive towards at The White Horse Federation, and World Book Day is an important part of the journey.
