How We Teach Computing - Engaging, Practical and Inclusive
We believe children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning. Our lessons are designed to be:
- Hands-on and practical
- Collaborative and discussion-based
- Creative and project-focused
- Carefully structured to build skills over time
Children regularly:
- Work with partners and teams
- Explore and investigate technology
- Create digital projects and programs
- Learn through real-life examples
- Develop resilience through debugging and problem-solving
Building Future Skills - Preparing Children for the Digital World
Computing at Zouch Academy helps children develop skills they will use throughout their lives:
We teach children to:
- Think logically
- Solve problems independently
- Create and innovate
- Stay safe online
- Understand how technology shapes the world around them
Our goal is to inspire every child to become a confident, capable and responsible user of technology.
"Empowering children to create, communicate, collaborate and thrive in a digital world."
Online Safety is Woven Throughout Our Curriculum
At Zouch Academy, online safety is not taught as a standalone topic. It is embedded into every computing lesson and is a key part of helping children become safe, responsible and confident digital citizens.
Each computing lesson begins with an Online Safety Starter using resources from ProjectEVOLVE, a nationally recognised programme based on the UK Council for Internet Safety's Education for a Connected World framework.
Through ProjectEVOLVE, children learn to:
- Stay safe online
- Communicate respectfully
- Think critically about information they see online
- Manage their digital identity
- Build positive online relationships
- Use technology responsibly
Online safety is taught progressively from EYFS to Year 6 through eight key strands, ensuring learning is age-appropriate and revisited as children grow. This is further reinforced through termly online safety assemblies and wider school activities.

Our Aim
We don't simply tell children what to do online; we help them develop the knowledge, judgement and confidence to make safe choices for themselves.
